Who are Your Heroes? Women in Computing event next week!

Who are Your Heroes?

Date - Time: 11 February 2015 – 6.30pm to 8:30pm

Place: University of Calgary, EEEL 161

There is a significant gender gap in the field of computing - women are disproportionately underrepresented in the field: in the classroom, in industry, and in leadership roles. Anita Borg’s life mission was to reduce this gap, because she believed women should have an equal impact on the technology which is prominent in our everyday lives. Now a community of women who have been inspired by her legacy is taking her mission worldwide. Our “Who are your heroes?” networking event on February 11, 2015 is part of a global series of events celebrating Anita Borg’s vision, and asks our participants to talk about prominent Canadian women in the field of computing. Join us for networking, conversation about our role models and heroes, and for light refreshments.

CSGS Food Drive 2013

Every year since 2002, the Computer Science Graduate Society has participated in a Food Bank Drive to help support the Campus Food Bank. The Campus food bank works to help people in the campus community who find themselves in emergency need of food and other necessities of life. Each year CSGS and the rest of the Department of Computer Science work together to gather shelf-stable non-perishable items for donation.

Halloween Pumpkin Carving Contest and Party

This year CSGS & ECEG will together be hosting a pumpkin carving contest and Halloween party for grad students, post docs, faculty and staff of the departments.

The pumpkins will be gutted beforehand so although costumes are not mandatory don't be afraid to dress up for the occasion!

Groups can be made on arrival or feel free to come with your own. Group sizes can be anywhere from 1 to 5 people and the winning team will earn a 'spooky' prize.

The event will start up at around 4pm on October 24th and held in ICT 516. Drinks and snacks (including chocolate!) will be provided.
