Free Tickets to Fringe Festival

Did you know that like many cities around the world, Calgary hosts a Fringe Festival annually?

For nine days this summer starting July 29, Calgary will be playing host to independent, uncensored, experimental theatre shows in the Inglewood area. AND CSGS has secured two pairs of FREE TICKETS! Two pairs of tickets that YOU CAN WIN.

We will be hosting a random draw for these tickets. To enter this draw you must:

CSGS Lounge

The CSGS lounge in ICT Building is 620 (beside the printers).

The lounge contains sofas, arm chairs, white board, microwave, fridge, water disperser, kettle, etc...

CSGS Winter Party

CSGS is holding a Winter Party on Wednesday February 2nd, starting at 4:30pm in ICT 516.

Pizza, snacks, and drinks will be served. Halal and vegetarian options will be available.

All faculty, staff, and graduate students are invited.

Winter 2011 Orientation Session for New Comers

The Computer Science Graduate Society (CSGS) is pleased to invite you to the Computer Science Department Orientation, a session designed for new graduate students who are joining the Department of Computer Science at the University of Calgary for the first time. The orientation session will be held on January 14th from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm, in ICT 516. To register for the orientation session, please fill in the information below and click on "Register".

CSGS Annual Christmas Party!

This year's annual CSGS Christmas / end of year party will be held next Tuesday (December 7th) beginning at 5pm 4:30pm in ICT 516. Join us for some free pizza, snacks, and drinks as well as to take advantage of the opportunity to meet with others in the department. You're all invited and we hope to see you all there!

(Please note that halal and vegetarian pizzas will be available.)

CSGS Annual Food Drive

The annual campus food drive is an important event for students in need here at the University of Calgary. In previous years, grad students have accounted for as much as 60% of those who must patronize services such as the food bank. This year, all proceeds will go to the Campus Food Bank.

For the first time, CSGS will be participating in the GSA's Holiday Food Drive. The Departmental Graduate Association which gathers the greatest number of donations will receive a sizeable gift certificate for the Last Defense, so help us compete for the department!

CSGS is also pleased to offer the lab which donates the most points (as outlined below) the honour of receiving the one and only Soup Can Cup, as well as a small prize of their own.

As in previous years, each non-perishable item you donate will net your lab points, while going a long way towards helping students in need, as listed below:

Cash donations will be accepted on December 6 and 7 only, at a value of 1 point per dollar.

Should you wish to donate to the food drive, but are unable to find your box, a donation box will also be left inside the graduate mail room.

The lab with the most points will win "The Soup Can Cup"! More importantly, it will mark your lab as the most caring and generous lab in the department. Donations will be collected on Tuesday, December 7, 2010.

CSGS Potluck - Nov. 22nd from 4 - 7 pm

You're invited to the first CSGS potluck event, taking place on Nov. 22nd from 4-7 pm in ICT 516. To register, please complete this form by November 19th indicating the type of dish that you plan to bring. Those unable to bring a dish may be able to participate by purchasing a $5 ticket, which will be used by CSGS to purchase additional food for the event.

This event provides an opportunity to share your favourite foods with others in the department and also to taste some of the food they enjoy.

International student mailing list

The GSA and U of C International are banding together to create a mailing list specifically for international students. This mailing list will be used in an attempt to better serve the needs of international students.
